Judge Kenneth H. Kato

Appointed by Governor Locke; Resigned to Private Practice

Judge Ken Kato graduated from the University of Washington in 1971 with a B.A. in psychology and in 1975 with a law degree. As an undergraduate, Judge Kato’s greatest claim to 15 minutes of fame was playing freshman and varsity tennis for the UW. A Spokane native, Judge Kato returned to the city after law school and was in private practice for 13 years before becoming a commissioner of the Court of Appeals, Division Three, in 1988. Governor Mike Lowry appointed Judge Kato to the Spokane County Superior Court in 1996. In 1997, Governor Gary Locke appointed Judge Kato to the Court of Appeals.

Judge Kato left the bench in 2007 to return to private practice.
