Personal Solicitation & Donations - Lesson Review

  • The solicitation for contributions should not be made by the candidate personally and should not be made in the candidate's presence because
    CJC Canon 7(B)(2) prohibits a candidate from personally soliciting a contribution.
  • CJC Canon 7(B)(2) provides that a candidate's committee may solicit contributions no later than 60 days after the final election in which the candidate participated.
  • CJC Canon 7(B)(2) does not set a specific time period during which donations may be accepted. The candidate may continue to receive donations more than 60 days from the date of the last election.
  • CJC Canon 7(B)(2) provides that candidates shall not use or permit the use of campaign contributions for the private benefit of themselves or members of their families.
