Who May Appear Before a Part-Time Judge?

  • Any restrictions pertaining to part-time judges are in addition to those applicable to all judicial officers. (CJC Canon 3(D))
  • CJC Canon 2(A) provides, in part, that judges should act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary.
  • A judicial officer may preside over a matter in which a former client is either a party or witness provided the subject matter of the litigation is unrelated to the matter on which the judicial officer represented the former client and if there are no other circumstances which would call the judicial officer's impartiality into question. (CJC Canon 3(D)(1)(a))
