Administrative Records Requests

As of July 1, 2023, Washington State Law Library became a department of the Washington State Supreme Court. As such, it is governed by General Rule (GR) 31.1, Access to Administrative Records. The library is committed to openness, transparency, and the promise that the public should have reasonable access to administrative public records.

What is an Administrative Record?

An administrative record is “related to the management, supervision, or administration” of the library. Examples include library payment records, policies and procedures.

Items in the library’s research collection are generally not “administrative records” of the library. Examples include books purchased by the library, research databases the library subscribes to, and federal government documents.

Reference librarians are available to help you access the research collection. See the Ask a Librarian section to the right for various ways to contact reference librarians.
