Planning Resources

Help with planning and hosting a National Adoption Day celebration can be found in your local community, as well as these state and national resources:

Washington State National Adoption Day Steering Committee

Washington State National Adoption Day Steering Committee members can help you connect with a judge or court official, with your local Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) adoption workers, or with local adoptive families or adoption agencies.

National Adoption Day

The National Adoption Day organization consists of a group of children's welfare organizations that started the nationwide event in 2000. The website has many helpful materials, including a toolkit, adoption resources, and information on other events happening in Washington and around the United States.

Foster Parent Association of Washington

The Foster Parent Association of Washington can help you invite local foster parents to your event, or may be available to help plan an event or provide an information booth.

Northwest Adoption Exchange

Northwest Adoption Exchange is a non-profit agency dedicated to helping facilitate adoption of foster and other children of special needs. They may be able to help you connect with adoptive families in your area, or help with your event in other ways.

Department of Children, Youth, and Families Adoption Information

The Department of Children, Youth, and Families has many great adoption resources available online. Adoption Support Program Consultants are on hand to provide support to counties across Washington.

Local Community Groups and Businesses

Many community groups and businesses are happy to help plan or make small donations to such a positive event as National Adoption Day. Don't hesitate to call on them to help your event be as community-centered as possible!
