Remote Jury Trials Workgroup

The Washington State Supreme Court commissioned the Remote Jury Trials Workgroup to make recommendations regarding best practices in light of the on-going challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workgroup developed the Best Practices in Response to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document and other resources with input from a variety of justice partners. It considered issues such as judicial education, lawyer education, public access, technology concerns, community input, and inclusion. The workgroup is neither making recommendations on whether courts should conduct remote jury trials nor providing legal advice or analysis.

A variety of resources are available in the sidebar to help understand and analyze issues involved with remote jury trials. As always, it is critical that courts understand and follow public health recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Washington State Department of Health, and Washington State Department of Labor & Industries (L&I).

If you have questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact the workgroup at remotejurytrials@courts.wa.gov.
