GENERAL ORDER 2000-2
IN RE APPRECIATION OF JUDGE HAROLD JOHN PETRIE

     WHEREAS, Harold John Petrie, a distinguished judge of this court from its beginnings in 1969 until his nominal retirement in 1985, who continued to serve this court after retirement, and who had earned previous recognition as a highly decorated veteran of World War II, an attorney and a state legislator representing Yakima County, a member of the Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals and Director of the Department of Labor and Industries, passed away on May 26, 1999; and

     WHEREAS, we, the judges of the Court of Appeals, together with its commissioners, clerk, staff attorneys and other employees, desire to give permanent expression of the respect, affection and esteem in which we held Judge Petrie;

      NOW, THEREFORE, be it ORDERED:

      THAT this ORDER shall memorialize the commitment to excellence and high standards of judicial craftsmanship that guided Judge Petrie; his remarkable devotion both to the legal profession and to his family; the esteem and affection of his many friends and admirers; and the scrupulous application of fairness and justice that characterized his service on the bench;

      THAT the death of our fellow judge has caused an irreplaceable loss to us personally and to the State of Washington;

     THAT we mourn his loss and extend and express our deepest sympathies to all members of his family;

      THAT this ORDER shall be made a part of the permanent records of this Court.
