General Order re WADA Cases *

IN THE COURT OF APPEALS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON

DIVISION I

On March 26, 1993, the Washington Appellate Defender Association (WADA) filed motions to continue the filing of briefs on which it has been appointed to represent a party. A list of the cases in which a motion was filed is attached to this order and incorporated by reference. The motions uniformly assert:

1. The verbatim report of proceedings in the above- entitled matter is of record.

2. Attorney for appellant has redistributed cases among staff attorneys in order for cases to be briefed in chronological order according to the date of filing of the Notice of Appeal.

3. The continuance requested above represents counsel' s best estimate of when counsel will be able to file appellant' 5 opening brief based on current staffing and funding levels.

4. In order for counsel on appeal to adequately prepare this case, appellant requires the continuance requested above.

The dates to which continuances are sought range from April 30, 1993 to April 30, 1994. Because there is no indication in any of the motions that the motion is based on the particular facts of the case, the motions are all denied without prejudice to renew based on specific facts relevant to the case under consideration. Now, therefore, it is hereby

ORDERED that the motions for continuance are denied without prejudice.

WADA Cases with Extensions Filed
