Commissioner Karl Triebel

Commissioner Karl R. Triebel was appointed as a Court Commissioner for Division Two of the Court of Appeals, effective December 1, 2022. Prior to this appointment, Commissioner Triebel served as a lead staff attorney for the Washington State Supreme Court. He has also worked for 10 years as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois, and as a judicial law clerk for Judge R. Gary Klausner (CDCA).

Commissioner Triebel graduated magna cum laude from Chapman University School of Law where he served as a senior articles editor for Chapman Law Review. He holds a bachelor's degree in business from Arizona State University and served as a navigator on KC-130s in the United States Marine Corps. He lives in Olympia with his wife and three children. Commissioner Triebel serves on the Appellate Education Committee, volunteers as a pro tem judge in Thurston County District Court, and mentors veterans participating in the Thurston County Veteran's Court program.
