DIVISION II, POSITION 4

January 1, 1978–December 31, 1979

Appointed by Governor Ray; Retired

Judge Hardyn Soule graduated from the University of Washington Law School in 1939. His first work was as a junior attorney in the Lands Division of the Department of Justice, first in Washington, D.C. and then in Seattle. After wartime service on Army ships, he became a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Pierce County on the civil side. In 1949 he formed a partnership with a friend, and did general practice until he was appointed to the Pierce County Bench in 1952 by Governor Langlie.

Judge Soule was appointed to a new judicial position on the Court of Appeals in 1978, and retired two years later in 1979, after 27 years on the bench- the longest tenure of any judge then active in Washington. For several years following retirement, he served as of counsel at the Gordon Thomas Honeywell law firm in Tacoma. Judge Soule moved to Sequim Washington in 1986.

Judge Soule died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010.
