Judge Jack P. Scholfield

DIVISION I, POSITION 1

Judge Scholfield was appointed to the Court of Appeals after practicing law for 29 years and serving approximately five years on the King County Superior Court.

Judge Scholfield grew up in Kansas and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Kansas State Teachers College in 1941. He enlisted in the Navel Flying Cadet program and was certified as a Naval Aviator in September 1942. Judge Scholfield earned a Distinguished Flying Cross in 1944. He retrained as a Night Fighter pilot and flew numerous combat air patrols and attacks until the end of WW II.

After the war, Judge Scholfield entered the University of Washington School of Law and graduated in 1948. He started his law career with George Guttormsen and was later a partner at Guttormsen, Schoelfield, Willits and Ager. The firm name later changed to Scholfield and Stafford.

Governor Dixie Lee Ray appointed Judge Scholfield to the King County Superior Court in 1977. He was appointed to the Court of Appeals and commenced service there in 1982. He retired from the Court of Appeals in 1995, after serving a term of two years as Chief Judge of Division One.
