CAUSE-OF-ACTION REPORTING CATEGORIES

ANNULMENT/INVALIDITY

Annulment/Invalidity (INV) - Claim that a marriage is illegal or invalid.

CHILD CUSTODY

Child Custody (CUS) - Dispute involving immediate charge and control of a child.

COMMITTED INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP

Committed Intimate Relationship (CIR) - Petition for distribution of property from a committed intimate relationship (i.e., a stable, marital-like relationship where both parties cohabit with knowledge that a lawful marriage between them does not exist).

Note: If parentage or child custody is at issue within a meretricious relationship, a separate petition should be filed under the appropriate cause of action (i.e., PAT or CUS).

DISSOLUTION WITH CHILDREN

Dissolution With Children of the Marriage (DIC) - Termination of a marriage other than by annulment, with dependent children of that marriage.

DISSOLUTION WITH NO CHILDREN

Dissolution With No Children of the Marriage (DIN) - Termination of a marriage other than by annulment, with no dependent children of that marriage.

DISSOLUTION OF DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP-WITH CHILDREN

Dissolution of Domestic Partnership-With Children (DPC) - Petition to terminate a domestic partnership, other than annulment, with children of that domestic partnership.

DISSOLUTION OF DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP-WITH NO CHILDREN

Dissolution of Domestic Partnership-With No Children (DPN) - Petition to terminate a domestic partnership, other than annulment, with no children of that domestic partnership.

FOREIGN JUDGMENT

Foreign Judgment (FJU) - Any judgment, decree, or order of a court of the United States, or of any state or territory which is entitled to full faith and credit in this state.

INVALIDITY-DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP

Invalidity-Domestic Partnership (INP) - Petition to invalidate a domestic partnership.

LEGAL SEPARATION

Legal Separation (SEP) - Petition by parties to live separate and apart. If dissolution is granted after six months, change this cause code to "DIC" or "DIN" as appropriate.

LEGAL SEPARATION-DOMESTIC PARTNERSHIP

Legal Separation-Domestic Partnership (SPD) - Petition to live separate and apart in a domestic partnership. If dissolution is granted after six months, change this cause code to "DPC" or "DDPN" as appropriate.

MANDATORY WAGE ASSIGNMENT

Mandatory Wage Assignment (MWA) - Petition for wage assignment (RCW 26.18.070).

MISCELLANEOUS

Miscellaneous (MSC) - Any other petition not specified by other codes.

MODIFICATION

Modification (MOD) - Change of a previous order or decree.

    Note: Use only when a new case file is opened and a new case number assigned. This will occur when the dissolution decree or order at issue was previously entered in another county or state.

Modification: Support-Only (MDS) – Petition seeking amendment of a previous order or decree regarding support.

OUT-OF-STATE CHILD CUSTODY

Out-of-State Child Custody (OSC) - Recording custody established out-of-state.

PARENTING PLAN/CHILD SUPPORT

Parenting Plan/Child Support (PPS) - Petition for Residential Schedule/Parenting Plan/Child Support in circumstances set forth in RCW 26.26.375.

UNIFORM INTERSTATE FAMILY SUPPORT ACT (UIFSA)

An agreement between states and other jurisdictions to enforce court-ordered child support. A URESA case is always an originating action, and should be recorded as a new filing. These matters are normally resolved and completed at the time they are filed.

Reciprocal, Respondent-In-CountyInCounty (RIC) - An agreement between states to enforce orders entered under the URESA act for respondents in-county.

Reciprocal, Respondent-Out-of-CountyOutofCounty (ROC) - An agreement between states to enforce orders entered under the URESA act for respondents out-of-county.
