November 20, 2019

Des Moines Municipal Court Administrator Jennefer Johnson and Chelan County Superior Court Administrator Fona Sugg were both named as the 2019 Court Manager of the Year at the BJA/CMC joint meeting on November 15. The award, established in 1987, honors an outstanding court manager for their exemplary contributions to the administration of justice in our courts.

Jennefer Johnson began serving the courts in her hometown in Yakima Valley then worked at King County District Court, Kent Municipal Court and is now nearing two decades at Des Moines Municipal Court. All told, she has nearly 30 years of service with the courts. Johnson was nominated by Judge Lisa Leone. “Jennefer is a dedicated civil servant, well-known among city employees, and highly respected by staff, city council members, and the city manager. I could not imagine doing what I do as a judge absent her support, sound judgment, and hard work.

Fona Sugg has served Chelan County Superior Court for more than 21 years, including as a judicial assistant and then court administrator. Sugg has served on a variety of committees focused on improving and ensuring the administration of justice. She was nominated by Judge Lesley Allan. “Fona is tireless in her willingness to accept new responsibilities related to her position and the administration of justice.”
