Civic & Charitable – Government Committee Appointments – Lesson Preview

  • CJC Canon 5(G) prohibits the appointment to a governmental board that is concerned with issues of fact or policy other than the improvement in the law, the legal system or the administration of justice. (Opinion 88-2)
  • A judge may not be appointed a committee that is concerned with issues other than the law, the legal system and the administration of justice. (Opinion 90-4)
  • If a committee appointment is advisory only it does not fall under the prohibitions of CJC Canon 5(G). (Opinion 97-13)
