Public Computer Use Policy

The State Law Library has one public computer for legal research and one public computer for our catalog.

Patrons at law library are required to use computers in a responsible and courteous manner consistent with the purposes for which they are provided. Failure to comply with this policy will result in the loss of computer privileges. Non-legal study or research should be done at other libraries.

Patrons use computers and online information at their own risk. The information accessed may be inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. Users of the law library's computers should have no expectation of privacy while using these resources.

Library staff is here to help. Please let us know if we can be of assistance.

Appropriate Computer Usage

  • Using the library's computers for legal research.
  • Refraining from illegal or inappropriate behavior.
  • Respecting intellectual property rights by making only authorized copies of copyrighted or licensed data.
  • Respecting the privacy of others.
  • Saving documents to a personal flash drive or emailing documents to a personal account directly from a database. Personal email access is not provided on library computers.

Prohibited Activities

  • Viewing, printing, or downloading games, chat rooms, shopping/auction services and pornography.
  • Altering or damaging the current settings of computers.
  • Downloading or uploading software or other executable files to or from computers.
  • Hacking.
